MEETING BRUCE BOXLEITNER

I met Bruce in Camas, Washington in June of 1992 while he was there filming "Perfect Family".  I had not even hoped to meet him but did want to get his autograph.  My husband played detective and found out where they were filming and even drove me over to the filming location, which was just across the Columbia River from Gresham and a short drive.

The cast had just finished dinner and there was a person checking on things.  I got his attention and asked if it would be possible for him to get Bruce's autograph for me?  He said he couldn't do that but if I would like to go up to the house and wait I could ask him myself.

I went up and sat in one of the chairs left out, to wait, feeling nervous and thinking what on earth am I going to say.  I was a member of one of his fan clubs and had a shirt, I took it with me and put it on.  It was a great icebreaker because when he came out of the house about 10 minutes later, he saw the shirt and said "What a great shirt".

We visited about 20 minutes, I got my autograph, got my picture taken with him and felt very comfortable talking to him, rather than nervous.  When he had to go in to film another scene, I thanked him for his time, the autograph and having his picture taken with me.  He said, "Oh, you don't need to leave yet, I'll only be a few minutes."  I waited about 15 minutes, he came back out and we visited again for another 20 minutes.   I really enjoyed his sense of humor and how easily he could put a very nervous person at ease.

After I got my pictures developed, I had the photo on the left made into an 8x10 and went back to Camas to have him autograph it.   They were filming a scene in town that day.  If you have seen the film, it was where he went into town to pick up his pictures.   We were just passing through with friends, on our way to go white water rafting.  My friend took a pictures as Bruce autographed mine.  I like how he admired the picture.

I think he is much more handsome in person than on TV and in movies.  There is a quality that shines through in person that just isn't captured on the screen.

I was lucky enough to meet him again in August of '93 at a fan club meeting in Los Angeles.  He spent 2 hours talking with us, having pictures taken and looking at fan scrapbooks.   He brought Melissa along with him and she was very friendly.  I also got to see him in '98 in London at Wolf The Crusade and get another autograph.
