The up's and down's on the Fedcon 7
in Bonn/Germany (April 30th - May 2nd 1999)
1. Up: Got to know that Bruce is going to come to a german Convention! YEAH!
1. Down: Arrival on the con and got to know Bruce doesn't sign autographs!
2. Up: Could at least buy a pic with Bruce's autograph
2. Down: "What should I do on this star trek con?" There was lots of time to kill and I
really wasn't interested in the merchandise stuff!
3. Up: Found the table from the German BB Fanclub. I was happy again.
3. Down: Got a place far far away from the stage (I guess about 30-40 meters)
4. Up: Start of Bruce's first panel. Oh my god, I'm in a room together with Bruce
(and 2000 other people.. but who cares in that moment)
4. Down: Panel was over too fast. (1 1/2 hours)
End of First day!
Next day of the up's and down's:
5. Down: Bruce's second panel was announced to be at 2pm. So there was lots of
time to kill before the panel started.
6. Up: Start of Bruce's second panel. Nice again! Someone from B5 fanclub asked
Bruce for a photo shooting. Bruce said that he tried his best to come there.
Someone from the the BB Fanclub asked if we could join that session and
this guy was okay with it.
7. BIG UP: Waiting for the moment this photo shooting was scheduled.
7. BIG DOWN: At the time the shooting was scheduled someone from the organizers
came telling us that Bruce has no time and that we won't come!
8. Little Up: .... maybe tomorrow will be a meeting
8. Down: After the con I got stuck in one of the biggest traffic jam I've ever
experienced at 1am! Not only the con was over at this time but also
"Rhine in flames", a mega event in Bonn. I like driving but don't like
traffic jams! It took me 2 hours to get out of Bonn and then 1 hour to
get to the place where I stayed for that weekend. I can tell you I didn't
get much sleep that night.
End of second day!
Next and last day of the up's and down's:
9. Up: An Autograph session with Bruce was announced (and as far as I know it was
Bruce's work that this autograph session was happening).
10. Mega up: A meeting with the German BB fan club and Bruce was announced to
take place right before the signing session. Long time to wait. We
bought 5 bottles champagne and 2 bottles Weissbier for Bruce (Because
he told in the first panel that he loves german weissbier!!!)
11. MAXI MEGA UP: Around the meeting time we were led into a room with
tables and they told us that Bruce is on his way. So we
opened the bottles and filled the glasses and waited.
11. MAXI MEGA DOWN: Someone came into telling us that Bruce wouldn't make
it and that when he arrives he has to do his autograph
session.
12. Going up again: We were told that we could slip into the signing room through
the exit door so that we could be at least "in the room where
Bruce would do the signing"!
13. Uppest up: Bruce came to us in the back before the signing started. He drank
his weissbier and showed us the book cover. This meeting lasted
about 5 mins.
13. Down: After we got our autographs we were thrown out of the room by the
con staff!
The closing ceremony was the last time I saw Bruce. The
con was over and it was time to drive back home.
I was happey because I have met Bruce Boxleitner and sad because it was over!!
And I can tell you, I had never experienced such a weekend before... with so many
up's and down's in such a short time.
But at least I have met Bruce for the first time! |
