President Truman arrived in Chicago the weekend of May 12 and ended his "non-political" coast-to-coast speaking tour with a frankly political address in Chicago Stadium May 15. His
speech climaxed a 3-day National Democratic Conference "Jefferson Jubilee" which served both to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's election to the presidency and to open the 1950
Congressional campaign. |

Side note: While we came to this idea to create such a history page, we joked around and said "that the world stood still because a little boy was born in Elgin, Illinois." Then
we began our search in Internet and Libaries and we got very frustrated because we found nearly nothing about this day.So after two days we WERE SURE that the world stood still because of that "Elgin-Event".
But Evita helped us out. She found most of the History stuff. So Thanks to Evita. |
